Which customs value is duty charged on?

The United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa charge duty on the FOB transaction value. The EU, UK, Gulf states and most of Africa and Asia use the CIF value, which includes ocean freight and insurance — so freight costs also attract duty there.

Do anti-dumping duties on aluminium extrusions apply to finished windows?

Usually not, but it depends on the ruling. The US orders on Chinese aluminum extrusions exclude many finished, glazed windows under the finished-goods-kit exclusion, and the EU measure targets extrusions rather than windows. Unglazed frames and kits are the risk. The calculator defaults AD/CVD to 0% and lets you model a rate.

Is it cheaper to buy FOB or DDP?

With FOB you control freight and clearance through your own forwarder and recover import VAT directly. DDP is simpler and gives one delivered price, but includes an importer-of-record fee and the VAT is usually not recoverable by you. For a first order many buyers choose CIF.

How many windows fit in a 40HQ container?

Roughly 70–90 casement-size crates or 150–200 m² of mixed windows. Lift-slide and pivot doors taller than about 2.5 m must lean on an A-frame or travel in a high-cube, which lowers the count. The load plan above shows the mix for your goods.

Landed cost questions

Ocean freight, insurance, port and delivery typically add 8–15% on a full container. Duty and tariffs add 0% (Australia with ChAFTA) to over 40% (the United States with Section 301 and 232). Import VAT or GST adds a further 5–23%, but registered businesses usually recover it.
